In my neck of the woods, one of the first signs of spring are the camelias. We have about 9 camelia trees with flowers that bloom in a soft pink and a rich darker magenta. These camelias have been around since the 1950s; they were planted and nurtured by the original owner of our home; a woman I never met but she shared the same name as my mother! She had such a green thumb and we are the lucky beneficiaries of her talents.
The other fun details of our house are that the street name is Clyde {as in Bonnie on Clyde…!} we took ownership on my brother’s birthday and moved in on my birthday…and of course the name thing.
When we moved in 10 years ago, we were greeted by literally a wall of bright, beautiful cheerful camelias and have enjoyed them every year since.
Wishing you a happy spring to all – from my backyard to yours!
i’m afraid we don’t have the climate for camelias. what a bummer. is it a type of rose tree? gorgeous. i thought it was a rose. we thought we were heading towards spring and then viola, more than a foot of snow. and today, rainy and ugly. thanks for a bright spot in my day bonnie.
i nominated you for a leiber award btw 🙂
